CD Wedding Favors

Giving CD’s as wedding favors has been a popular choice amongst couples for many years now. CD’s burned at home allow you to personalize your favors in a way that many other types of favor can’t be.

Your only dilemma will be what to put on it! Some couples choose to record the wedding music they played at the wedding, perhaps the music they walked down the aisle to, cut the cake to and the first dance song. In effect, providing a complete record of the wedding day by way of the music played for every element of the day.

Other couples choose to record the playlist from the evening disco, including the first dance song also. You could also simply record a selection of your favorite tracks, whether you played them at the wedding or not.

However, in recent years much has hit the press about copyright issues with downloading and recording music in this way and with passing it on to others. Whilst we all used to record tapes at home and give them to our friends, the internet has revolutionized the way in which we share music and the musicians and songwriters are not happy about it. Burning CD’s to give as wedding favors appears to land in something of a grey area as far as the law is concerned. Some couples will not be phased by it whilst others may choose a different type of favor altogether.

One way around the problem of copyright is to look for royalty free music and music which is out of copyright, meaning it is no longer bound by copyright laws. However, finding such music could take a long time and severely restrict your choices.

If you do decide to burn your own CD’s then there are some other things to consider. If you have ever burned a CD at home then you may well be aware of how it long it takes to produce just one CD, let alone a couple of hundred! Even with a state of the art computer and the latest software, it can still take several minutes to produce one CD. There is a sound quality issue also, so taking quality and time into consideration it could be well worth your time hiring a professional to produce them for you.

When it comes to packaging and presenting your CD’s you can choose between the plastic ‘jewel’ cases or card sleeves. Both of these allow for full personalization and graphic design, you can also get software to put on your computer which will give you the templates to design and print, you then just need to cut them and fold them up or insert them into the cases. Many couples design them to coordinate with their wedding stationery and include their names and wedding date to the front and a track list on the back.

You can also purchase CD sized aluminum tins which are a very stylish way to present your CD’s but one which is more costly than the options above. These tins look great when you add a personalized sticker to the top.

Whether you choose to give CD’s of not is up to you, however you should satisfy yourself with regards to the law first.
